Backing Vocalist

A backing vocalist, harmony vocalist, backup singer, background singer, or backing singer is a singer who provides backup to other singers and musicians in recordings, commercial jingles, or live performances. Backing vocalists provide vocal harmony with the lead vocalist or other singers, and in some cases they may sing alone to lead-in the main vocalist or to create a counter-melody. The use of backing vocalists is common for many musical styles including popular music, traditional music and world music.
